maría moreno is an award-winning abstract painter. Her work focuses on movement, colour and emotion.
She was born in the vibrant Canary Islands and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, places which strongly influence her artistic voice. Now based in the scenic Bay of Quinte in southeastern Ontario, she creates textured, expresive abstract paintings primarly in acrylics.
Her process is intuitive as she begins without a set plan, letting instinct, memory, and mood guide each piece as it develops. Rather than aiming for perfection, she welcomes unexpected moments and sees spontaneity as an essential part of her process. She invites viewers to move beyond mere observation—to feel, rather than view, her work—to engage with the piece.
Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and abroad, and is included in private and corporate collections throughout North and South America and Europe.
Driven by intuition, my practice explores the expressive power of colour, movement, and gesture. Each painting evolves through experimentation and spontaneity, allowing unexpected moments to emerge. Layered textures and bold chromatic relationships create spaces where emotion and memory can surface. Rooted in abstraction, my work invites viewers into a place of feeling, reflection, and personal interpretation.
